Attacked by the Super Bug

Thanksgiving evening I started getting a sore throat. It continually just went down hill from there. Major head colds are not my favorite. I raided my local Target trying to boost my chances of beating the nasty old cold.
By Tuesday I started feeling better and thought I was on the upswing.  Then the bug morphed or my body was invaded by a new super bug. I have been sick as a dog for about 24 hours. Clear liquids and soup for me.

I have a long list of things that need to be done around the house and projects but they will all have to wait until I am feeling better. I am complaining about being sick for a few days. It reminds me that I take my good health for granted. My thoughts and prayers of comfort, strength, and healing for everyone fighting illnesses much bigger than a stomach bug.

Hot Yoga

Yoga is aimed to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit. Yogis view that the mind and the body are one, and that if it is given the right tools and taken to the right environment, it can find harmony and heal itself. Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of body posture, alignment and patterns of movement. It makes the body more flexible and helps you relax even in the midst of a stress stricken environment. This is one of the foremost reasons why people want to start practicing yoga - to feel fitter, be more energetic, be happier and peaceful.

I participated in my first ever Hot Yoga class this morning; it was awesome. I have been attending a yoga class off and on for a bit. But this morning class was completely different. The temperature in our room was about 85-90 degrees.  Sweat was dripping off every inch of my body and my mind was centered and peaceful. It was a great way to start my morning and set the tone for my whole day. I will definitely be going back next week for Hot Yoga.  Encouraging you guys to get out and move your bodies. It's so easy to be a couch potato during the winter months with the short days. Exercising and being active helps improve your mood, memory, and leaning skills. Happy Hump Day!

Sideboard: Before and After

Do you guys remember this old sideboard I picked up at an auction while I was home for the holidays?

I was anxious to work on this piece because I had the perfect place for it in my entry way. I came home and went straight to work by cleaning it up and sanding.

Next I mixed a few paint colors and created the perfect shade of green. I wish my grown up job consisted of making magnificent paint colors.. Possible the best job ever... creating beautiful things. I painted the sideboard.
Then I sanded the surfaces to help show off the beautiful wood and grain. The distressing turn out really well and add the perfect about of character to the piece.
Great addition to the entry way. I have had several different pieces of furniture here but none of them have made the cut. I was never satisfied with the previous pieces. I am constantly moving furniture around until I love the feel of the space.. But I might have found the winner with this sideboard. Do you spy my other DIY project? We are ready for the Christmas holidays!!

Contest Update

The Bad News: I wanted to thank everyone that voted for my bathroom to win a makeover. Unfortunately I didn't have the most vote, so therefore I did not win the gift card. On the bright side, entering the contest did inspire me to focus on starting my bathroom makeover. I have finally picked a paint color and hope to paint sometime this month.

The Good News: I did win the Tacky Turkey Contest at work!!! Hip hip hooray! David Durkey had lots of good competition. There was actually a 3 way tie. They had a few children and parents vote for the tie breaker. David Durkey pulled out the win!! It is super fun to have bragging rights of designing the tackiest turkey! Hahaha what does that say about me? I have slightly tacky taste?

Until the next contest..

Thankful for all

Thankful for all my family members. We had one of the best Thanksgivings that I can remember. Everything just seemed effortless, easy and joyful. Each side of our family has many blessing to be thankful for this year. Both sides of our family have been battling illness, cancer, and other health issues. When loved ones are going through trials it really puts everything in perspective. We need to focus on the most precious things in life: faith, family, friends, health, and fun (things that bring us joy). So that's just what we did this Thanksgiving. We spent super great quality time with our family, talked about being healthier, spread good cheer to our friends, and spent an ample amount of time being joyful by laughing, making fun of each other, and playing family games.

We kicked off Thanksgiving by hosting Mister R.'s family for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.

Friday morning Mister R. got up early and went hunting. I headed to my parent's house to start Thanksgiving with my family. Mister R. came after killing his limit of ducks. He is a big hunter and so excited to have good hunt.

Gender Reveal

Mister R and I attended a gender reveal party this past week for our dear friends. We had a little mix up and went to the wrong cupcake shop. Ooopies, I am not the best with directions or details. But we made it just in time to meet up with our friends and find out the sex of their baby.

Proud Papa explaining all the old wives tales they tried to predict the gender of thier baby. The test results were tied 4 boys/ 4 girls. They let the Mom to be's little sister open the box. Its a baby.....???

They are having a sweet precious baby GIRL!!! We are so excited for them to start their own family and having enjoy off the blessing that parenthood has to offer.

Shutters: Before and After

The other day as I was paroozing Pintrest, I came across this cute idea of using an old shutter as a card/ photo holder. With the start of the Holidays this week and the expected arrival of Christmas cards soon; I knew that I wanted to tackle this project pronto.

Pintrest Inpiration

I had stumbled upon these old shutters a could of weeks ago. They have been living in my garage and looking sad. Here are the before pictures. They are looking old, bleak, and weathered.

These shutters were in need of some DIY love and the key to all pretty things - fun cheery paint!! I made one for myself (red) and one for a friend (blue).

After letting the paint dry, I sanded and distressed them a smidge to add some intrest and to show off their age. The final product turn out super cute, if I do say so myself. The coloring in the pictures below is kinda strange. I am working on my photography skills. As you can tell I have lots to learn.

Yay for another completed project. I am ready for all the Christmas cards coming my way!! I love this time of the year! Happy Thanksgiving!! Hope your holidays are filled with an ample amount of love, laughter, and peace.

Contest..

I have entered myself in 2 contest this week. The first one is at work. We are having a Tacky Turkey contest in honor of Thanksgiving. I struggled to find a starting point but after I came a across a wood duck body at Goodwill- it was smooth sailing. The following pictures are of David Durkey the Star Turkey!!

My kiddos at work helped me with the feathers and hair. My favorite part of David Durkey is his Jerry curl and mustache.  How can he not win? Right? I will keep you updated to let you know if he wins the Tackiest Turkey. My fingers are crossed!!

Okay, moving on the the 2nd contest I have entered. My sorority sister Cara has a fabulous blog  called Live the Home Life. If you haven't read it before you should definitely check it out! She and has teamed up with Ace Hardware for a giveaway. I was super excited when I read about the contest.

The contest winner wins a 100 dollar gift card toward making over their space/ room.  I submitted the following photos of my master bath. It's a big space and I am struggling for inspiration to develop a game plan. Here is where I need your help... I need you to vote for my space.
You can vote online at the Property Group Page.
 http://www.facebook.com/thepropertygroupAR

The photo with the most "likes" wins the gift card. Please vote for my master bath.. You can tell from the pictures below that if needs a fresh coat of paint, updated fixtures, new hardware, repainted cabinets, and some great accessories! Disclaimer (I did not pick the dark blood red/ like tannish- pink combo. It was a parting gift from the previous owners. I did paint the squares on the wall testing out paint colors. I am leaning toward the blue/grey color. Any input?)

Thank for helping me out and voting. I will show after pictures when I tackle the big bath!!
